Arthurlie manager Colin Reilly has expressed his delight at securing a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup, describing it as “a massive achievement” for the club.
It was an afternoon of high drama at Rockburn Park on Saturday as the Barrhead team fought back from 1-0 down against Bellshill Athletic to secure a 2-1 victory with two late goals.
Kevin Fraser fired Third Division title favourites Bellshill into a shock lead in front of a crowd of more than 700 as his corner-kick found the back of the net.
Arthurlie have been struggling in the Premier Division of late and their faithful fans may well have been fearing the worst at that stage but the visitors showed they were still up for the cup by scoring twice in a dramatic end to the quarter-final tie.
Jordan Leyden hauled the Dunterlie team level on 83 minutes and Dylan Fletcher bagged the winner just two minutes later.
It is the first time Arthurlie have reached the last four of the competition since 2007 and Reilly heaped praise on the travelling fans for their backing on Saturday.
In a message posted on the club's social media pages, he said: "I would just like to thank the support for the massive backing they gave us and that certainly helped, coming from 1-0 down."
The other teams to make it through to the semi-finals are Auchinleck Talbot, Darvel and Johnstone Burgh, who edged past Premier Division outfit St Cadoc's in a penalty shootout after the teams had drawn 3-3 at Keanie Park.
Each of the semi-finals will be played over two legs.
Next up for Arthurlie is another big game as they face old foes Pollok at home this Saturday, with vital league points up for grabs.
As things stand, the Barrhead team are second bottom of the Premier Division, with 11 points from their 15 matches.
However, Reilly is hoping the momentum gained through their cup run can inspire his players to climb away from the relegation zone.
He added: "We are all determined to kick on from this result. starting with the game at home against Pollok."
Saturday's match at Dunterlie Park kicks off at 1.30pm.
