Arthurlie booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup after a dramatic victory over Benburb at the weekend.

The home team had taken a two-goal advantage into the second half at New Tinto Park on Saturday, thanks to strikes from Aaron Black and Declan McDonald, leaving the Barrhead side staring a cup exit in the face.

It was a situation that Arthurlie had found themselves in at the same venue not too long ago, having fallen 4-1 behind against St Cadoc’s by the interval during a league clash in October.

On that occasion, Colin Reilly's troops were able to battle back to earn a point.

And they produced another impressive comeback against the Bens to keep their cup dream alive and kicking.

Max Kerr started the turnaround as he netted to make it 2-1.

When Scott Anson scored an equaliser two minutes into added time, it looked like Arthurlie had done enough to force a penalty shootout.

However, the Dunterlie team weren't willing to settle for the lottery that is spot-kicks and Jordan Leyden popped up with a 97th-minute winner to send the travelling support home happy.

The victory sets up a last-eight showdown with Bellshill Athletic at Rockburn Park on Saturday, February 10.

Other quarter-final ties include Auchinleck Talbot versus Hurlford United and Darvel against Lochee United, while the winners of the last-16 clash between Johnstone Burgh and Dundee Downfield will be at home to St Cadoc's.

In the more immediate future, Arthurlie have just one fixture left to play in 2023, as they host Irvine Meadow on Saturday, December 30.

Kick-off at Dunterlie Park is at 1.30pm.

Arthurlie are now selling half-season tickets, which will provide admission to 10 home games as the 2023/24 campaign reaches its conclusion.

These are priced at £50 for adults and £25 for juveniles and other concessions.

Meanwhile, Arthurlie's Under-20 development squad also staged a thrilling comeback in their latest fixture.

They were 2-0 down against Maybole at half-time of Friday's match at Carrick Academy but goals from Cammy McIntyre, Abdul Hafeez and James McGowan saw them claim a 3-2 victory – their first league win of the season.
