BOSSES at Neilston believe the “vast majority” of Junior clubs will join the West of Scotland Football League.
The Farmer’s Boys this week announced their intention to apply to join the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid, which gives Junior clubs the chance to work their way up through the leagues, which wasn’t previously possible.
And club secretary Kevin Robertson fully expects more teams will do the same.
He said: “The main thing is that it allows you to be ambitious and move on up the leagues if you want to.
“At the moment in the Juniors if you win the top division you don’t go anywhere, but now you’ve got a route assuming you have the appropriate licensing.
“With the SJFA managing to find a way that clubs can keep their SJFA membership, then I think it’s looking like the vast majority of clubs, if not all, will eventually move and that keeps things harmonious for all the clubs which is important to us.
Robertson added that Neilston are currently ‘mothballed’ and are keen to get playing again.
He said: “The grounds locked up and there’s no activity. Nothing going in and nothing going out.
“We just need to sit it out and it’s fair to say we’re all missing football, although there are bigger things to think about.”
