BARRHEAD Amateur Boxing Club continue to mark their 40th year with notable successes in the ring.
Thirteen-year-old Kian O’Malley comfortably outpointed Stuart Richardson of the 1314 boxing club to win the Western Districts Title at 40kg for the 2003 division.
It was Kian’s first title fight after some rapid improvement since joining the club.
However, it was not the end of his achievements as Kian went on to win the open class Scottish title at 40kg 2003 division.
It was a terrific achievement for the young fighter who has worked to improve his skills under coach Graeme Thomson.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Paul Greville won the novice Scottish title against a very difficult opponent in October.
It proved a real challenge for Paul but he dug deep to outpoint Rhys McSorley of Blantyre to be crowned Scottish Novice Champion.
Coach Brian Walker was delighted with the performance of the St Luke’s High pupil after many hard hours spent in the gym.
Barrhead Boxing Club has been running for 40 years and has been heavily supported by local businesses and the community of Barrhead as a whole.
The club charge children £1 and adults £2 for a two-hour session and all coaches are volunteers.
However, they would not be able to do their work without the support of the local community.
Barrhead Amateur Boxing Club are holding their 40th anniversary show in Barrhead Foundry on Saturday, April 30.
Tickets to the event are priced at £15.
This will be an all-action event with over 13 fights and exhibition bouts taking place.
If interested in obtaining tickets, contact Mark Breslin on 07810210187.
