Arthurlie put their supporters through the wringer on Saturday before coming up trumps in a 3-2 victory over title-chasing Troon at Dunterlie Park.
It was the Ayrshire side who made the breakthrough. Just after the quarter-hour mark a through ball found Jordan Muir who ignored the calls for offside to open the scoring.
However Arthurlie levelled five minutes later when Gavin Rushford scored from a corner.
Both sides were now pushing for the next goal as play ebbed and flowed.
And it was the Barrhead side who had the ball in the net next but Eddie McTernan’s effort was ruled to be offside. To rub salt into the wounds of the home support, Troon scored their second almost immediately after when Muir was on target again.
Ten minutes into the second half it was all square when Rushford netted his second, when he stooped to heading home a Craig Palmer corner.
Darren Gribben made way for Chris Mackieon the quarter hour mark and soon after Ian Nimmo was replaced by Daryl Convery as Arthurlie manager Steven Kerrigan looked to freshen things up, but it was a player already on the pitch who was front and centre of the game’s main talking point.
Last season’s away league fixture to Auchinleck Talbot saw Michael White pull off a quite remarkable save that secured a precious point. and leave fans stunned at how he kept the ball out.
With 20 minutes to go here a shot from Muir, low and to the left of the Arthurlie keeper saw him somehow get down and palm the ball onto the post and away.
The ball was swung straight back in for Adam Forsyth to meet it with a header from point blank range that saw White leap and touch over the bar – a breathtaking double save. that left the on looking supporters from both sides open mouthed.
With four minutes left Arthurlie got the winner. When the ball was played to the back post From a corner Mackie managed to get there before three Troon defenders to hook the ball past the mass of players on the goal-line and give Arthurlie three priceless points.
