SEVERAL Scottish chippies are in the running to be named UK Takeaway of the Year at the 2025 National Fish & Chip Awards.

Forty establishments across Britain have been shortlisted for the title with eateries in cities and regions like London and Cornwall making the cut.

The event has been organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) with the aim of highlighting the very best the industry has to offer.

To select its chippies, it gives each establishment a set of challenges and interviews covering everything from industry awareness, product knowledge, sustainability, employer responsibilities and customer service.

NFFF President Andrew Cook said the journey contenders go through to get to this point is "very intense" but that at each stage, shop owners are provided with learnings and recommendations to encourage them to "keep pushing forward."
