AFTER visiting Cross Arthurlie and Springhill and Auchenback, our cricket tour ends at Carlibar Primary, as pupils took to the pitch.

Over 25 youngsters worked on their batting, bowling and fielding at the school cricket masterclasses, which are part of the Kwik Cricket scheme, which aims to get as many youngsters as possible into the sport.

The Kwik Cricket curricular programme is arranged through Active Schools, supported by Sportscotland and Jacqueline Lynn, Sportscotland’s head of school and community sport, said: “Sportscotland’s Active Schools Network is increasing the opportunities for children and young people to participate in school sport, and action-packed events such as these play a crucial part in raising pupils’ involvement in sport and physical activity.

“The Active Schools team in East Renfrewshire does an excellent job in organising these events and we commend them for their efforts.”

The scheme has given over 100 Barrhead youngsters the chance to try cricket and for further information on playing cricket or to find out what is happening in the Barrhead High School cluster then get in contact with Gary McGunnigle, Active School co-ordinator, on 07800629705 or email him at mcgunnigleg@ea.e-renfrew.sch.uk For further information on East Renfrewshire Junior Cricket Club call Ammar Ashraf on 07837129845.
