A school has unveiled a 'secret garden' on its playground.

Maidenhill Primary School, in Newton Mearns, has transformed part of its playground into an outdoor retreat thanks to a partnership with Cala Homes (West).

The new space, dubbed the 'secret garden', comes complete with its own Yellow Brick Road and is designed to encourage outdoor learning.

This initiative aims to promote the mental and physical well-being of the pupils.

The project was led by teacher Gordon Edge. He invited Cala Homes' sales team member Emma McBride to the opening of the secret garden and Yellow Brick Road to see the pupils' hard work.

He said: "We are incredibly grateful to Cala Homes for their generous support in helping us create this outdoor space.

"The secret garden and Yellow Brick Road offer our pupils a unique environment where they can connect with nature, enhance their learning, and prioritise their mental and physical well-being.

"Outdoor spaces like these are vital in fostering creativity, mindfulness, and encouraging active learning.

"We are thrilled with the result, and it's wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm as they explore, learn and play here."

Emma, sales consultant at Cala Homes (West), said: "It was truly inspiring to see the effort and creativity that Gordon and the children have put into making this such a special space.

"The secret garden and Yellow Brick Road will not only provide the pupils with a peaceful environment to learn and play, but it will also be a lasting testament to the power of collaboration between Cala Homes and the local community."
