Bowling alley plans at Silverburn which will see £2.5m invested have received a boost after a booze licence was granted.
King Pins is set to open at the shopping centre, offering a range of “competitive socialising” options alongside its ten-pin and child-friendly duck-pin bowling alleys.
Glasgow’s licensing board granted a provisional premises licence to the venue at a meeting on Friday. Councillors were told the “family-friendly operation” will include darts, shuffleboard, crazy pool, batting cages and arcade games.
It will also have duck-pin bowling — a simplified bowling game for children, with shorter alleys and lighter balls.
A representative for Pins Leisure Ltd said £2.5m would be invested in the fit-out of the unit at Silverburn while 10 full-time and 30 part-time jobs are set to be created.
She added the firm is “delighted” with the location at Silverburn. Under the licence, alcohol will be able to be sold until 11pm.
Eurofund Group, an international real estate firm and one of the owners of Silverburn, previously announced plans to add a King Pins to the shopping centre.
At the time, it said the deal would help continue to diversify the offering at Silverburn by introducing new leisure options.
Alberto Esguevillas, CEO UK Retail at Eurofund Group, said: “The redevelopment marks an important step in our journey to provide an exceptional shopping and leisure experience for our visitors.
“By diversifying our offering with a new leading leisure attraction — in King Pin bowling — we aim to create a destination that meets the ever-evolving needs of those visiting Silverburn.”
There are currently King Pin alleys in Manchester with plans to open in Bristol as well as Glasgow.
