The council has approved the planning application for a wind farm in East Renfrewshire.

Moorshield Wind Farm will be located on land to the southwest of Bennan Loch, close to the Whitelee Wind Farm.

It has been revealed that three turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 149.9m will be installed, producing an estimated 50 GWh of electricity per year, which will cover the needs of around 14,250 average UK households.

Carmen Caminero, country manager for EDP Renewables UK, said: "EDPR are proud to achieve this milestone, it adds to our portfolio of nearly 200MW of consented projects in the UK we are looking to take forward to construction in the next couple of years including battery storage and onshore wind capacity.

"Additionally, EDPR, through Ocean Winds, operates the 950MW Moray East Offshore wind farm and is completing the 880MW Moray West Offshore wind farm.

"EDPR is committed in supporting the UK in achieving net zero targets."

Karen Elliott, project manager for Wind2, said: "I am so proud to have project managed Moorshield Wind Farm, with a supportive team.

"We have worked incredibly hard to finally gain planning permission and I would like to thank East Renfrewshire Council planners for their work on determining the application."

The Moorshield Wind Farm is expected to become operational by 2026 and will contribute towards the Scottish Government's ambition to deploy 20GW of onshore wind by 2030.

In addition to the energy benefits, the wind farm will contribute a community benefit fund of £5,000 per MW, per annum of installed capacity, with a total fund of £2.25 million over the lifetime of the project.
