Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what was happening 20 years ago in East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire.
We have delved into the Barrhead News and Gazette archives to pick out some stories.
Here are some photographs from our editions which were published on Wednesday, October 27, 2004.
Do you remember these stories or spot any familiar faces?
1. Hairdresser Irene retires after 45 years
It was a case of ‘Hair I Go’ for a local salon owner when she retired after an astonishing 45 years of crimping. Irene Green worked in Irene’s Haircare in Mill Road since she was 15 and for most of that time was the owner.
2. Nursery holds fun fitness day
Madras Nursery kids got in shape when the nursery held a fun and fitness day. Jennifer Kelly (above) showed the way and earned a cheer from the kids.
3. Primary school receives honour
St Mark’s primary was given Charter Mark status. In doing so, it became only the eighth primary in Scotland and the first in East Renfrewshire to receive the honour.
4. Runner Ronnie's New York race
A super-fit dad was set to take a bite out of the Big Apple — wearing a See You Jimmy hat. Fun runner Ronnie Williamson was all set to take on crowds of sweaty bodies as he went for glory in the New York Marathon.
5. Paula beats thousands to win art prize
A creative schoolgirl won a unique sculpture by a top artist for her entry in a Renfrewshire-wide art competition. Children across Renfrewshire were challenged to design a stained glass window for the Doors Open Day competition. Paula Swanney, a pupil at St John Bosco Primary in Erskine, impressed the judges with her design which was centred around an open door. Her prize was a miniature chair specially designed by the ‘Govan Chair Man’ John McLaughlin whose chairs have been presented to celebrities and royals.
6. Run raises money for charity
A thousand kids from Gryffe High in Houston took part in a massive fun run to raise money for the British Heart foundation. Also taking part were top celebrities from the world of sport including Rangers striker Steven Thompson and ex-Ibrox legend Mark Hateley.
