A property management firm has installed an additional security measure at a retirement complex after a shocking incident which left residents “frightened” and “scared”.

According to reports on social media, the communal lounge was trashed and a TV smashed at Strawhill Court on Strawhill Road in Clarkston on Tuesday, October 15.

At least one resident’s door was also reportedly defaced by the vandals.

The complex is managed by First Port who said they are doing “everything they can” to support residents following this “isolated incident”.

A spokesperson for the company added: “The safety of our residents is our absolute priority, and we have robust safety features on site, including CCTV, as well as door entry and alarm systems.

“We have reviewed the security measures at the development and installed an additional perimeter alarm in the lounge area.

“Additionally, we are working closely with local police to increase their presence, which includes routine patrol car visits to the car park."

Police confirmed yesterday (Tuesday, October 23) that they were called to a report of vandalism at the complex at around 8.55am on October 15.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Councillor Annette Ireland, who represents Clarkston, Netherlee and Williamwood, said she was “very concerned to hear about the recent break in and vandalism at Strawhill Court”.

“This must have been such a frightening incident for the residents,” added Cllr Ireland.

“I have already been in touch with the community policing team and understand that they are already closely involved.

“I have asked that they pay extra attention to this area to help ensure that this does not happen again.”
