A popular food and drinks establishment in Barrhead is set to close after this weekend.

The owners of Frankiez Café Bar on Carlibar Road announced their difficult decision to shut in a social media post this afternoon.

The premises built up a loyal customer base thanks to its cocktails and its food menu featuring burgers, small plates and classic favourites such as fish and chips and mac and cheese.

The post said: “Hi everyone, after much consideration Stuart and I have taken the difficult decision to close Frankiez Cafe Bar to allow us to retire.

“We will be closing after this weekend.

“It has been a challenging four plus years for us, but despite many up and downs we have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and made lots of great new friends.

“We would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank all of our fantastic staff and customers (past and present) for being an important part of our business and for helping us to provide great experiences and create some forever memories.

“We are very grateful to you all for your support and loyalty.

“For anyone who has purchased a voucher please just pop in this weekend or contact us by phone/private DM us on Facebook.”

The announcement on social media was met with an outpouring of comments from residents who have enjoyed visiting the establishment.

One said: "I'm going to miss the best margaritas. Thanks for giving my daughter such a lovely baby shower. Enjoy your retirement."

Another added: "It’s really bittersweet to hear this folks. Really sad you are closing down as you have been a friendly, homely place to come for a drink or some food.

"You have both worked very hard in your previous careers, as well as putting your heart and soul into this venture.

"You both deserve a long and happy and peaceful retirement."
