East Renfrewshire Council are working to determine a revised timescale for the Aurs Road project following “extremely wet weather conditions”.

The £22.68 million transformation of Aurs Road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns began in January with the route originally set to be closed for 12 months.

A series of factors, however, have all had an impact on construction according to the local authority.

“We are working closely with the contractor and project managers to determine a revised timescale.

“Once we have a confirmed completion date, we will communicate this as well as provide an update on the significant progress made on the site to date.”

Once complete, the road will bring a more direct local route between Barrhead and Newton Mearns by straightening out two sections of the road and replacing a weak bridge.

A 4km circular walking and cycling route around Balgray Reservoir will also be created as part of the works.

The works are also set to “pave the way for new visitor facilities at Dams to Darnley Country Park”.

"Work to prepare a business case for the development of visitor facilities at the Dams to Darnley Country Park is underway,” added the spokesperson.

“The outline business case is expected to go to the Glasgow City Region for approval in November."
