An engineering contractor has donated a Land Cruiser to a charity.

Barrhead-based George Leslie has donated the vehicle to WaterAid Rwanda's country programme.

The donation supports WaterAid UK's mission to 'ensure clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene is accessible everywhere, for everyone'.

Tony Fry, construction director at George Leslie, witnessed the need for reliable transport first-hand during a visit to Nyamagabe and Bugesera districts in Rwanda.

He said: "My lasting memories from the trip are of the happiness and the celebrations within the villages because they have been given access to clean water for the first time; and of leadership shown by communities, local government, and WaterAid Rwanda staff in getting it to them.

"Their clear and focused vision to work closely together to deliver improvements to their citizens through the provision of clean water, attendant facilities, and education was both humbling and inspiring.

"It was most definitely a week I will never forget."

A spokesperson for WaterAid Rwanda said: "WaterAid Rwanda would like to extend our sincere thanks to our amazing supporters at George Leslie, whose generous donation funded the purchase of a Land Cruiser for our country programme.

"Rwanda has made remarkable progress in recent years to reach people with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

"However, there is still a significant journey ahead, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas, where access to basic services is still limited.

"To everyone at George Leslie, we cannot thank you enough for your continued passion and partnership for our work.

"With this support, we will be able to reach even more communities with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene."
