1. Mum’s the word at Auchenback baby café

Based in Auchenback Resource Centre, it included a drop-in service to offer mums support and advice with all aspects of breastfeeding. 

2. Winning the battle against Neilston’s litter

Matt Marshall and the team of dedicated residents who made up Neilston Community Repair had just been given high visibility clothing to make them more visible when working during the dark winter days. So far they had removed almost a tonne of rubbish from the streets.

3. St Thomas' Primary kids celebrate St Andrew’s Day in style

(Image: Newsquest) Pupils at a Neilston primary school got into the Scottish spirit of St Andrew’s day. Our photographer visited St Thomas’ Primary as pupils dressed up in the finest kilt wear and danced and sang their way through a host of Scottish traditional music, dances and poetry. 

4. Sandra Yuill hangs up her apron as new owners move in

Sandra Yuill handed over the keys to D&A Yuill on Cross Arthurlie Street, regarded by many as a Barrhead institution. The 68-year-old said that she was overwhelmed by the amount of support from well wishers who had handed over cards and gifts.

5. Sensory room opens door to new experience for youngsters

(Image: Newsquest) A remarkable new sensory room opened up a whole new world for children with complex needs a helping hand from the lottery. Parents, staff and supporters of Corseford School had been fundraising for a long time to make the dream of this state-of-the-art facility become a reality. 

6. Legendary rock singer Roger Daltrey’s impromptu gig

Roger DaltreyRoger Daltrey (Image: Newsquest) A glamorous wedding turned into a rock ‘n’ roll affair when The Who singer Roger Daltrey showed up for a guest performance. The bride and groom were celebrating their special day at the Mar Hall Hotel in Bishopton when the legendary rocker gatecrashed their wedding. The Who’s lead singer had been staying at the plush Renfrewshire venue ahead of his band’s long-awaited sell-out show in Glasgow’s SSE Hydro. When Daltrey overheard the wedding band, Milestone, performing onstage, the icon decided to ask if he could tag along for an impromptu jamming session. 

7. Nursery given glowing report by Care Inspectorate

(Image: Newsquest) A nursery in Renfrewshire was recognised as one of the best after being given a five star rating by the Care Inspectorate. Little Stars, based in the amenity and retail centre at Hillington Park, received a glowing report for the quality of care and support; the environment; the staff and its management and leadership.
