1. Dedicated Eileen retires after 24 years at St Mark’s

(Image: Newsquest) A dinner lady who served more than a million meals in a Barrhead school hung up her apron. Eileen Foley retired after 24 years at St Mark’s Primary School on Roebank Drive. It had been a family affair for Eileen – her three children were all pupils at St Mark’s.

2. Drugs and anti-social behaviour are top of the agenda

(Image: Newsquest) A new top cop took over the reigns in Barrhead and East Renfrewshire, and already put her stamp on operations. A dozen police officers gathered on Barrhead Main Street for a “street briefing”. Normally held in chair-filled rooms in the heart of the local station, this event was as much a show of force as it was a brief insight into what goes on behind the scenes in policing the town. A sergeant led the briefing, while Chief Inspector Angela Carty watched on — this was the public manifestation of her priorities; drugs, anti-social behaviour and community engagement.

3. Barrhead beauty academy marks birthday milestone

(Image: Newsquest) A national enterprise scheme enjoyed its first birthday by opening an academy in Cross Arthurlie Street Barrhead. One of the newest branches of Young Enterprise Scotland, the YES Academy, celebrated the occasion by launching the next phase: the new Hair and Beauty Academy.

4. Brand new facility opens in Linwood

(Image: Newsquest) Exercise enthusiasts were enjoying new fresh-air facility in Linwood. Housing provider Sanctuary Scotland contributed an outdoor gym to its award-winning regeneration of Linwood. 

5. Areas sporting heroes rewarded

(Image: Newsquest) Sports coaches, officials and volunteers from across Renfrewshire celebrated the achievements of some local heroes at a ceremony at Paisley Town hall for the Renfrewshire Coaching, Officiating & Volunteering (COV) Awards.

6. Craig gets into spirit of starring role

(Image: Newsquest) HE is more used to training football stars than swigging spirits. But fitness guru Craig McGinlay swapped training in the gym with starring in an exciting new whisky commercial alongside David Beckham. Renowned coach Craig, from Paisley, was cast in the advert for Haig Club whisky by director Guy Ritchie.
