A new £80,000 play park has opened up in the Auchenback area of Barrhead.

Councillor Owen O’Donnell was joined by children of Barrhead Housing tenants as he cut the tape at the community facility in Newton Avenue.

The partnership project was built with funds from the local authority’s Place Based Investment Fund.

Councillor O’Donnell said: “I was absolutely delighted to be invited to open this fantastic new community facility and to see the smiles on the faces of the children who will enjoy playing there for years to come.”

Prior to creating the new play park, Barrhead Housing said they consulted tenants on the design and type of play equipment that should be installed.

The play park was designed and built by Scotplay, a Glasgow-based company and the space features 

As well as tenants and their children, the opening of the play park, designed and built by Scotplay, was attended by Barrhead Housing board member Brian Connelly MBE and housing association staff.

A Barrhead Housing Tenant said: “I live across from the play park and it’s great to see something done with the space as there was just nothing there before.

“Now my children have been in there every day playing.

"It’s great to see.”

Bryan Dando, Barrhead housing community investment manager added: “We were delighted our application for funding to the council was successful.

“We are now progressing plans to revamp other parts of the area around Newton Avenue.

"The ideas being put forward by our customers include everything from bulb planting to community vegetable and plant growing.”
