CHILDREN in Barrhead recently enjoyed a week full of free activities at a leisure centre in the town.
All About Barrhead wrapped up its first Play Week which was organised by the All About Barrhead Business Improvement District (BID).
The event provided youngsters with a different free activity each day from August 5 to 9.
It kicked off at the Barrhead Foundry where children had the opportunity to participate in Lego building. They were given lunch and a mini Lego City Scarecrow set to promote the upcoming Scarecrow Festival in Barrhead scheduled for October 12 to 26.
On Tuesday, In Cahootz drama club hosted three exciting drama sessions tailored for different age groups.
The sessions were a hit, with children enjoying a day of creativity and performance, accompanied by a free lunch and healthy fruit snacks.
On Wednesday, In Cahootz shifted focus to teenagers, offering another day of engaging drama activities.
To celebrate National Play Day on Wednesday, Planet Play soft play opened its doors to 100 children for six hours of free play.
On Thursday, the IM2C Bike Hub offered bike skills sessions at Cowan Park and on Friday, All About Barrhead joined forces with Arthurlie FC to host football coaching sessions ked by Calcio Coaching at Dunterlie Park grounds.
The free lunches throughout the week comprised 500 fruit bags from McDonald’s Barrhead and £50 worth of fruit from Tesco Barrhead.
Greggs also played a part, preparing 100 sandwiches each day for the event which were purchased by All About Barrhead.
A £1,000 grant from Tesco’s blue token community grant scheme supported Play Week.
Jenny Dunlop, manager of the BID, said: “We are thrilled that our first Play Week has been such a huge success and was so well received by the local community.
“All About Barrhead wanted to put on a week of activities that supported the National Play Day’s aim of highlighting a child’s right to play, whilst giving local children the opportunity to play for free.
“We are also thrilled to have showcased many of the wonderful local businesses and groups we have in Barrhead that can offer children a broad range of activities to take part in throughout the year.”
