A major Barrhead event has been postponed due to safety concerns.

The Big Bounce was set to take place on Saturday, August 10 at Centenary Park.

It was set to offer five hours of totally free, inflatable fun including a 100ft obstacle course, disco box and slide castle, rush slide, bungee run, dart board, Nerf wall, Twister mats, sumo suits, 3D dragon castle, tots deluxe castle, pillow bash and disco fun run.

Unfortunately, however, organisers have said it will not go ahead this weekend due to the weather.

A spokesperson for All About Barrhead told the Barrhead News: "We are incredibly disappointed to announce that our Big Bounce event, scheduled for August 10 at Centenary Park, will be postponed due to safety concerns.

"The Met Office is forecasting gusts of up to 41 mph, and for us, safety is always our top priority.

"Our threshold for wind safety is 25 mph, so we simply can't risk it."

The popular event, which was returning for another year, was to be held on the final day of the town's first ever Play Week, which has been running this week with a series of fun activities for children and families.

Making the announcement this afternoon, AAB, the business improvement district, said they explored the possibility of hosting the event indoors.

Unfortunately, however, due to the size and number of inflatables, there were no local venues available that could accommodate the event.

"Rest assured, we are working hard to find an alternative date to bring you the fun and excitement we promised," the spokesperson added.

"We can't wait to bounce back bigger and better.

"Thank you for your understanding and patience.

"Stay tuned for updates, and remember, AAB is committed to bringing exciting events to town, including the Barrhead Scarecrow Festival and the Big Barrhead Hallowe'en Parade in the coming months.

"We appreciate your support and look forward to celebrating with you all soon."
