Barrhead Councillor Chris Lunday has vowed to continue to engage with council officers over the Aurs Road project in a bid to "mitigate" any further issues.

The £22.68 million transformation of Aurs Road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns began in January with the route set to be closed for 12 months.

Once complete, the road will bring a more direct local route between Barrhead and Newton Mearns by straightening out two sections of the road and replacing a weak bridge.

Last week, however, East Renfrewshire Council said that it was “aware of recent issues with ground conditions at the site".

In a further comment issued last Thursday (July 25), the local authority added that they “only became aware that ground conditions could impact on the programme in recent days and the impact is currently being assessed".

The council has since also confirmed that works at the site are continuing during this time.

Responding to recent developments, Councillor Chris Lunday told the Barrhead News: "I think the Aurs Road project will be great when completed, so it disappointing to see potential delays.

"I know that the road closure is very inconvenient for local residents.

“I know there have been concerns regarding the lack of consultation with local residents living nearby the site.

"I have been in touch with council officers regarding communication.

“Effective communication with residents is essential for any project, especially one of this magnitude.

“There were also issues regarding dirt and noise caused by the ongoing work which affected residents in the housing nearby.

"I am glad that the council acted quickly on this and a street cleaner has been out since and tighter restrictions on their timings were enforced.

“I know this issue is extremely important to the local community so I will continue to engage with council officers and hopefully any further issues can be mitigated."
