Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what was happening ten years ago in East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire.
We have delved into the Barrhead News archives to pick out some stories from around a decade ago.
Here are some photographs from our editions which were published on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.
Do you remember these stories or spot any familiar faces?
1. Four friendly giants search for new home
Four friendly giants were abandoned at a Barrhead kennel. Alaskan malamutes Tubbs, Sweetie, Bart and Rickkie were once part of a 42-strong pack of their breed kept in horrible conditions. The cuddly dogs, similar to a bigger Huskie, were on the hunt for a good home and a loving owner.
2. Barrhead author releases new book
Barrhead author Daniela Sacerdoti released the final instalment in her epic Sarah Midnight Trilogy. September 2014 saw the publishing of Spirit, “a breathtaking” conclusion to the long running saga staring a demon hunting girl.
3. East Renfrewshire pupil named top student
An East Renfrewshire pupil was named top student on his vocational course. Lewis Chalmers, who attended Eastwood High, was best in class on his auto skills course at West College in Paisley.
4. Match raises thousands for charity
Generous ladies from a Barrhead pub raised more than £2,000 for a local charity through a charity football match.
5. Volunteers from Barrhead and Neilston hook £2,000
A fishery netted nearly £2,000 for a local charity after hosting a fundraising bash. Snype’s Fishery on the outskirts of Barrhead and Neilston hooked in dozens of people to take part in fishing challenges, face painting, home baking and even the odd ice-bucket challenge with a twist.
6. Teen skaters on a high thanks to new facility
A fantastic state-of-the-art skate park opened in Barrhead. The first-class addition to Cowan Park won funding of £75,000 to cover the cost.
