East Renfrewshire Council have submitted plans to reinstate four sandstone decorative balls on one of their buildings.
It is proposed that the finial features will be attached to the existing parapet balustrade on the front elevation central bay of Capelrig House in Newton Mearns.
If approved, the balls would be fitted at the locations of former finials which were removed at some time in the past, although the exact date of the removal is unknown.
There is evidence of former plinth locations and fixings still visible on site and the stonework would match those shown in historic photographs.
The application, which was submitted to the planning department by the council’s principal officer of technical services, is currently awaiting decision.
The Georgian building is a category A listed, and as well as full planning permission, the council is also seeking listing building consent for the proposal.
