A care home close to Barrhead has received a glowing inspection report.

Applecross Nursing Home, which is located off Glasgow Road in between the town and The Hurlet, received an unannounced inspection last month which took place from June 10 to June 12.

The facility was visited by two inspectors and was judged on how well it supports people's wellbeing and how good the staff team is.

Using a six-point scale where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent, the care home was judged as being 5 or very good on both counts.

The report published today (Friday, June 12) also contained several key messages.

Inspectors found that the multidisciplinary staff team supported people to have their health needs met and that the home had a strong focus on training and supporting the staff team with learning and development.

They also said that good monitoring systems and self-assessment systems supported leaders to plan improvements and shape the future of the service.

People were found to be engaged in their community where possible and the staff team felt well supported by leadership and were enthusiastic about their jobs.

The home is registered to provide a care home service to a maximum of 82 people.

Within this, it has 60 places for young physically disabled adults and 22 places for older people.

The provider is Applecross Nursing Home Limited, a family-owned company with Applecross Nursing Home as their sole service.

The home supports people who live with a wide range of support needs and examples include physical disability, mental health, learning disability, dementia, and frail elderly people.

The older people's service is based in a historic house with a modern extension over three floors which provides accommodation for the younger physically disabled people.

All rooms are single bedrooms, and in the modern building, all rooms have ensuite facilities with showers.

Some rooms in the older part of the building, however, have to share bathrooms.

Each unit has shared bathrooms and a resident's lounge with adjacent dining area, also used for group activities.

The home, which sits in private grounds down a private lane off the main road, has an accessible garden for residents' and relatives' use.

At the time of the inspection there were 79 people staying in the home.

To prepare for the inspection, the inspectors reviewed information about the service including previous inspection findings, registration information, information submitted by the service and intelligence gathered since the last inspection.

In making their evaluations of the service they spoke with nine people using the service and one of their family, 15 members of staff and management, and also observed practice and daily life and reviewed documents.

The inspectors also used responses received on electronic surveys as part of their evaluation.

They received responses from 36 people using the service, 39 family carers or friends, 71 members of staff and 10 visiting professionals.

The report also stated that no complaints have been upheld since the last inspection.
