Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what was happening ten years ago in East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire.

We have delved into the Barrhead News and Gazette archives to pick out some stories from around a decade ago.

Here are some photographs from our editions which were published on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

Nineteen young people heard the magic words ‘you’re hired’ at a ceremony to mark the conclusion of a popular council youth employment programme. The group were looking forward to their new careers after taking part in The Recruit – loosely based on TV’s Apprentice – which saw young people compete through a series of business based and practical challenges.

5. Open doors success

(Image: Newsquest) Thousands of people from Renfrewshire and beyond took the opportunity to get a sneak peek inside some of the area’s most interesting buildings. More than 18,000 people were estimated to have taken part in Doors Open Day. A tannery, two sports centres, and an ambulance station were some of the more unusual venues opening their doors.

6. Town's fountain celebrations

(Image: Newsquest) It was a great day for Paisley when 1,500 people flocked to Fountain Gardens to see the newly restored Grand Fountain flowing again. The fountain, which was bequeathed to the townspeople by the Coats Family in 1868, is one of the world’s finest examples of cast iron sculpture.
