An East Renfrewshire care home boasting a beauty salon and cinema has received a positive report from the Care Inspectorate.
Three inspectors carried out an unannounced visit of Newton House on North Greenlaw Way in Newton Mearns between May 20 and May 23.
Using a six-point scale where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent, they rated the facility as “5 - very good” in three categories including “how good is our leadership?”, “how good is our staff team?” and “how good is our setting?”.
In two categories, “how well do we support people's wellbeing?” and “how well is our care and support planned?”, the home was rated as “4 – good”.
Newton House is a care home registered to provide care and support for up to 113 adults aged 60 and over.
The provider is Hamberley Care 1 Limited and there were 65 people living at the home at the time of inspection.
Several key messages were included in the report which was published this week.
Inspectors found that people's physical, mental, and emotional health needs were met well and that people had access to stimulating activities at home and in the community.
It was also found that people were supported by a skilled and stable workforce and by the right number of staff at the right time to meet their needs.
Management were said to have robust quality assurance systems to ensure people were safe and well.
The inspectors said there had been significant improvements in the care home since the Care Inspectorate’s last inspection and the service was advised to continue to develop people's care plans to further improve their experiences.
The facility is a purpose-built care home comprised of five separate units, with a passenger lift providing access to all three floors.
All rooms provide spacious ensuite facilities and as well as a wellbeing and beauty salon and cinema, there is also a café, multi-faith room and landscaped gardens.
Some rooms have direct access into the garden from patio doors.
To prepare for the inspection, the Care Inspectorate reviewed information about the service, including previous inspection findings, registration and complaints information, information submitted by the service and intelligence gathered throughout the inspection year.
To evaluate the home, it spoke with 14 people using the service and six of their friends and family members, 11 members of staff and management and six visiting professionals.
Inspectors also observed practice and daily life and reviewed documents.
The report added that no complaints have been upheld since the last inspection.
