3. Barrhead could hold key to Aston Martin puzzle
Eighty years after it was built, a rare classic car turned up in Canada after its former Barrhead owner sold it on. One of just 100 ever made, the Aston Martin International was once owned by a doctor living in Arthurlie Avenue in the 30s. In 2014, the man who took the car to his heart and completely restored the £160,000 machine in the 50s and 60s attempted to track down its former owner — a Barrhead doctor known only as R.S. Macrae.
4. Amputee mum wins support of A-list stars
A host of Hollywood stars, including Gerard Butler and Mel Gibson backed a Renfrewshire mum’s charity. Quadruple amputee Corinne Hutton, from Lochwinnoch, set up Finding Your Feet after pneumonia almost took her life the previous summer. Corinne and her brother Davy decided to ask celebrities for their hand or foot prints so they could raise awareness of the charity and ultimately auction them to raise money for the cause. Stars including Mel Gibson, Gerard Butler, Vinnie Jones, Robert Carlyle and Gary Lewis, pledged their support by providing their handprints.
5. Long-awaited store opens in Linwood
After a seven-year wait, Linwood’s multi-million pound Tesco development was finally unveiled. Bright and breezy shoppers poured through the doors of the 40,000 sq ft supermarket before it started trading at 8am.
6. It’s double delight as ‘ten’ twins take a bow
Teachers were forced to a double-take when 10 sets of twins turn up for their first day at primary school. The new primary ones were sporting some mischievous grins at five different schools in the Renfrewshire area.
