A fire has ripped through a home within a sheltered housing complex prompting a huge 999 response.
As many as 10 fire trucks lined Barrhead's Main Street after a 999 call was made around 4pm today.
It is believed that residents were evacuated from the complex while hero firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
A local shop worker said: “There were loads of fire engines here.
"We noticed the smoke around 4.15pm and within maybe 20 minutes, they were here and put the fire out.
"We saw people standing outside the building possibly evacuated but it was hard to see from across the street.
"It’s sheltered housing for the elderly so it’s sad but the firefighters, they were incredible.
"Nothing like this ever happened here before.”
Pictures from the scene show the damage caused by the fire with first-floor windows covered in soot.
Firefighters appeared to have extinguished the blaze just after 6pm and were seen at the scene clearing up their equipment.
It is not known if anyone was injured in the fire.
Police, fire, and ambulance have all been contacted for comment.
