A councillor is calling for more CCTV and car number plate recognition cameras in a bid to catch thieves.
It follows concerns raised by residents following a spate of house break-ins in the Newton Mearns area in recent times.
In one horror incident this month, a trio of masked men broke into a 72-year-old man’s property nicking a four-figure sum of cash and a quantity of jewellery.
Cllr Andrew Morrison, who represents Newton Mearns North and Neilston, told the Barrhead News: “It is regrettable we are seeing these burglaries taking place in Newton Mearns yet again.
“I would welcome more infrastructure solutions to mitigating these recurrences such as expanding CCTV coverage, installing more car number plate recognition cameras at key road junctions to help identify and catch the culprits.
“This is particularly important when Newton Mearns is close to the M77 and Southern Orbital roads which allow criminals a fast getaway.
“These should be considered key locations for ANPR number plate cameras.”
