1. Hundreds of jobs up for grabs at new store
Vacancies at the new Asda Barrhead were to be launched online as the supermarket stepped up its recruitment drive. Retail giant bosses said they were looking to fill almost 200 jobs and pledged to prioritise Barrhead residents. Some interviews took place in WorkER on Barrhead Main Street.
2. School pupils team up to transform vandalised pavilion
Dozens of youngsters from Barrhead High Schools transformed a graffiti stricken community sports complex by getting busy with the brushes. They took just two hours to transform the rundown building at Neilston’s Kingston Playing Fields.
3. Gala chairman steps down from role
Gala chairman Ryan McNaughton stepped down from the role after the successful organisation of 2014's big event.
4. Head teacher’s royal honour with MBE
A Barrhead teacher was honoured by The Queen. Head at St Luke’s High School in Barrhead, Patricia Scott, was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Mrs Scott had been head teacher at St Luke’s for seven-and-a-half years but had been with the school for 30. She joined the Barrhead secondary in 1984 as principal teacher of PE before being promoted to assistant head, then depute, before becoming head in January 2007.
5. Youngsters are stripes ahead for French day
Neilston youngsters got continental as they held their annual French day at St Thomas’ Primary.
6. Children stage amazing school musical
St Mark's Primary School held their production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
