An apprentice from Giffnock is being recognised for his "first-class" service by reaching the semi-finals of a national trade competition.
Ewan McGibbon, who is studying electrical installation at Glasgow Clyde College's Cardonald campus, is one of the 33 entrants in the Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2024 semi-finals.
The 20-year-old was shortlisted for his passion, dedication, and ambition.
Ewan was nominated by his employers, Frank Rooney, managing director, and Heather Rooney, operations manager, at T.R. Aitchison Electricians.
They said: “We’re delighted that Ewan has reached the semi-finals.
"We feel he stands out from other tradespeople because of his kind, patient and understanding nature. He spends time with customers and explains what is being done so that they feel comfortable in their own homes."
Heather said they have received "endless positive customer reviews" about Ewan’s "first class" customer service, adding that he always tries to problem solve and understand what he is doing to learn from it.
Returning to London in May, the final will see the top 10 apprentices face industry experts including representatives from Screwfix and other institutions.
The winner will receive a £10,000 trade bundle made up of tools, tech and training.
Ewan said: “I can’t believe I’ve reached the semi-finals of Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2024.
"For me, an apprenticeship isn’t just about learning new skills, it’s helped me unlock a passion. To reach the semi-finals is a result of my dedication and determination to embark on a successful career in the trades.
"I’m really proud to have made it to the semi-finals and I’m excited to showcase my story so far.”
Jack Wallace, marketing director for Screwfix, added: “The skills gap facing our industry is showing no signs of slowing down, so it remains as crucial as ever to highlight just how rewarding a career in the trades can be.
“Regardless of who makes the final 10, they should all be incredibly proud of their achievement, and I have no doubt they’ve inspired even more people to consider a career in the trades."
