Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to look at what was happening in the area 10 years ago.
We delved into the Barrhead News archives to pick out some of the stories from over a decade ago.
Here are some photographs from our edition which was published on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
Do you remember these stories or spot any familiar faces?
1. Another busy year of Bookbug fun was rounded off with a special final session. The event saw little book lovers enjoy stories, songs and rhymes.
There were three special guests – babies who all celebrated their first Christmas in 2013. Robyn Rooney, Ibrahim Farid and Maya Karthick all joined in the fun.
Councillor Mary Montague (pictured), said at the time: “I was delighted to go along to this very special Bookbug session.
"It was wonderful to see the children enjoying the stories and the songs."
2. A talented Barrhead ice skater struck gold in her first competitive event.
St John’s Primary pupil Chloe Cameron (pictured below second from right), 8, took home the prestigious Kay Shield’s trophy.
She battled off stiff competition in the top skating class to win the award against older and more experienced skaters.
3. Generous Barrhead High students enjoyed a ‘dress as you please’ day with a twist.
Instead of donating money students were asked to give items to the town’s foodbank charity.
Each student was asked to donate at least one item of food to help feed those in need over the festive period.
Headmaster Andrew Sinclair was delighted with the response from pupils and praised the efforts of everyone involved.
4. Barrhead student Vicky Podgurskyy, an aspiring hospitality professional gave up a family Christmas and Hogmanay in order to further her career ambitions with a placement at the prestigious Gleneagles Hotel.
5. St Luke’s pupils turned Grease stars prepared to tread the boards of an East Renfrewshire theatre.
Hundreds of hours were put into the production by staff and pupils who hoped for a stellar turnout on the night from adoring friends and families.
6. Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders were given the use of a top of the range vehicle — after Arnold Clark provided them with a Kia sportage.
The group was set up to be the first on the scene of an emergency, providing vital first aid and life support before professional ambulance services arrived on scene.
West of Scotland MSP Jackson Carlaw and local Councillor Charlie Gilbert attended the official launch of the team.
