A MAJOR retailer is set to open its new store in Barrhead this weekend ahead of Christmas.

It comes after Farmfoods revealed its new shop on Kelburn Street will open on Saturday, December 16, at 8am, according to their website.

We previously reported in October that council bosses gave the retailer the green light to open a new shop in the town.

The planning application, which was originally validated by the local authority in August, was to open the supermarket in the former Lidl.

It also said external alterations would be made to the store, including the installation of air conditioning and chiller unit.
