A parcel delivery driver caught behind the wheel while on drugs was fined £470.

David Clark, 38, was snared after police found him at the scene of a collision with a metal barrier in Glasgow's Govan.

Clark, of Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, told police that he was the driver of the van involved.

He admitted taking drugs as a result of "domestic difficulties" he faced at the time.

Clark pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sherriff Court to driving while unfit.

The court heard police attended the scene after being made aware of a collision.

Prosecutor Paige Phillips said: "Officers noted a van had collided with the near side metal barrier meaning the vehicle was blocking the slip road exit.

"Officers noticed that Clark was seated in the drivers seat - he appeared lethargic and couldn't provide an explanation how the collision took place."

Clark was asked who the driver of the vehicle was and he replied: "Myself."

He was found to be unsteady on his feet and took a couple footsteps to steady himself.

Clark was also asked safety questions and appeared distracted.

He was arrested and checked over by a doctor who believed he was on drugs.

Sean Flannigan, defending, told the court his client felt he was okay to drive that day.

He added: "At the time he was having domestic difficulties and was under stress.

"He accepts he resorted to illicit drugs which was a feature of his life in the past.

"He was working at the time as a parcel delivery driver...as a result of this, he lost his employment."

Sheriff Owen Mullan disqualified Clark for 12 months as well as imposing the fine.
