A TEENAGER was rushed to hospital after an incident at a house in Newton Mearns.

999 crews swarmed the residential area in East Renfrewshire around midnight on Sunday following reports of a break-in.

An injured 16-year-old boy was discovered within.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The condition of the teenager is unknown.

Terrified residents claimed to have spotted over a dozen police vehicles on the scene in addition to ambulances.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged possession of an offensive weapon.

The Glasgow Times understands that the teenager was not a resident of the home.

The force has launched a probe into the incident but revealed they are treating it as a concern for a person case.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.10am on Sunday, 29 October, police were called to a report of a break-in to a house in Newton Mearns.

“Officers attended and a 16-year-old man was found injured and taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

“No-one from within the house was injured. Enquiries are continuing and this is being treated as a concern for person incident.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with possession of an offensive weapon. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
