Barrhead residents have rushed to defend the town after TikTok influencers posted a review of the new Popeyes restaurant which questioned its location.
Twins Kevin and Kieran D’Arcy, who have more than 80,000 followers on the platform, are known for their videos which showcase their “thirst for food and travel."
The fast-food chain opened its outlet at the town’s new retail park this week and, like several social media personalities, the pair decided to head along and feedback on its offering as “everyone and their gran was saying how good it was.”
At the beginning of the video, however, their comment “still don’t understand why they picked Barrhead” prompted some backlash with responses from viewers such as “What’s wrong with Barrhead” and “Strange statement."
One asked “Why not Barrhead? Do you stay in Barrhead?” to which Kevin responded “It’s a bit far out” and Kieran added, “We would just prefer something a bit more accessible."
Unhappy with their reasoning, the viewer replied “Yes it may be far from you. But it’s close to the people that stay near Barrhead. It’s not all about you. Selfish.”
Another said: “Not here for the Barrhead slander. What did we do to deserve this?”, to which the brothers replied “Nothing wrong with Barrhead” and “Hahaha sorry guys."
A further viewer, meanwhile, told the brothers “Barrhead is actually a great place to open it. New retail park is great."
While, many were unhappy with the video questioning the location, the brothers who “braved the queues” to sample Popeyes' taste of Louisiana, received praise for their “honest review” on what to order and what not to order.
They described the chicken burger as “fantastic” and “worth the hype”, the chicken tenders as “amazing" but "a bit pink inside”, the mash potato and gravy as “another really good option” and the chicken wings as “nice and crispy and fresh”.
They thought the chips were a “bit mid but fine” and gave the thumbs down to the biscuit, gravy and milkshakes.
On a final more positive note, however, the staff also received a shout-out and were described as “amazing” in the video.
