A 12-week creative employability programme for East Renfrewshire parents is to launch in Barrhead on September 21.
Impact Arts, in partnership with Barrhead Housing Association, is running the initiative on Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 2.30pm in St Andrew’s Church.
Participants will gain employability skills and SQA qualifications, as well as receiving one to one support towards future employment.
Those taking part can receive up to £30 per week as a training allowance for attending the programme, plus travel costs can also be reimbursed.
A spokesperson told the Barrhead News: “Participants will work with a dedicated youth worker who will support them to gain an SQA qualification and will offer tailored pastoral support throughout the 12 weeks.
“The creative lead tutor will introduce participants to new artistic techniques and will support them in creating artworks using various artforms.
“Participants will also get the opportunity to link up with local community groups.
“At the end of the 12 weeks, there will be a celebratory showcase of work that will be planned, collated and hosted by the participants.
“Friends and family members are encouraged to attend to celebrate their achievements. This event will be child-friendly and open for all.
“The programme aims to help each participant to build confidence and develop employability skills to ensure they go on to a positive destination once they complete the programme.
“This could be further training, education or employment.”
The programme is open to parents who live in East Renfrewshire of any age up to 67 years old, who are experiencing barriers to employment; lone parents; parents with a disability or who have children with a disability; parents with three or more children; parents from a minority ethnic background; and families with a parent under 25 years old.
The initiative is also open to other low-income parents e.g. kinship carers.
