Residents can explore the area's fascinating history with a new series of heritage walks and workshops this autumn.
The events, hosted by East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, will be led by renowned local historian and leading researcher on Scotland and slavery, Dr Stuart Nisbet.
Local studies librarian Amanda Robb from ERCL told the Barrhead News: "Dr Stuart Nisbet has been helping locals explore the area's history for a number of years now.
"Following the publication of his novel The Book of Here and There earlier this year, we have introduced a new class and walk based on his research, as well as events exploring the area's heritage."
Giffnock Heritage Class: What Lies Beneath takes place on September 19 at Giffnock Library.
It will allow participants to discover the better-known story of Giffnock's famous sandstone, as well as the forgotten tales of its other minerals.
Heritage Walk: Giffnock Fire and Brimstone follows on September 26 and will look at Giffnock's Sandstone quarries.
The walk, which starts at Giffnock Library, will also tell the story of hundreds of miners who worked coal from under Giffnock and the coal bings that were later used for Giffnock's brickworks.
Heritage Walk: Mines and Mysteries, meanwhile, leaves from Giffnock Library on October 10 and will look at Braidbar Sandstone Quarries.
It will also explore how Giffnock's limestone and fireclay were quarried and mined to produce fertiliser and drains to improve Giffnock's farmland.
The East Renfrewshire and Slavery: Heritage Class will take place at Netherlee Pavillion on October 26.
In this class, Dr. Nisbet, will examine the question: What if our local area was owned and developed by slave owners?
Participants will explore who owned the land and built the houses, and take a simple look at what slavery means to us today.
The class is a stand-alone event but will complement the heritage walk East Renfrewshire and Slavery: Heritage Walk, which takes place on November 2, with a guided walk based on the Netherlee area, leaving from Netherlee Pavilion.
Those participating in walks should wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
All walks and workshops take place from 10am to 12pm.
