Investigation to be carried out after Carnbooth House Hotel fire

It comes after emergency service crews rushed to reports of a derelict building on fire on Busby Road, Glasgow, last night.

A fire ripped through the Carnbooth House Hotel, a large country house that was built by architect Alexandar Cullen around 1900.

The hotel, which was also previously used as a residential school, has been lying empty since 2019.

Now, Police Scotland has confirmed that a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire will be carried out alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Pictures from the incident show that the roof of the historic building has collapsed, while windows, some of which were already boarded up, have been damaged by the fire.

In total, ten fire service vehicles were originally sent to the scene, while in the latest update, two appliances remain at the incident as firefighters continued to extinguish the blaze.

It is understood no one has been injured and the Carmunnock Bypass between Busby Road and Carmunnock Road which was previously closed has been reopened.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The Carmunnock bypass between Busby Road and Carmunnock Road is now open following its closure due to a building fire.

"A joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire will be carried out in due course alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.03pm on Thursday, August 17 to reports of a derelict building on fire Busby Road, Carmunnock, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised a total of ten appliances at the height of the fire to the scene.

"As of Friday, August 18 at 12.06pm, there are two fire appliances at the scene, where firefighters are continuing to extinguish the fire.

"There are no reported casualties."
