A FLAG has been raised in East Renfrewshire to show support for the men and women in the Armed Forces.
The flag was raised at the council’s headquarters in Giffnock on Monday, June 19, to mark Armed Forces Day.
The event takes place nationally on the last Saturday in June.
Guests who attended this year’s flag-raising included serving military personnel, veterans, and elected members.
Provost Mary Montague joined Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire Colonel Peter McCarthy to raise the flag and show support and appreciation for those in the Armed Forces.
The flag was raised by Charlie Stringer, chairperson of Royal British Legion Scotland (Newton Mearns).
Provost Mary Montague said: “The raising of the Armed Forces Day flag is an important event held annually by the Council to mark the start of Armed Forces Week and express our gratitude.
"It’s an opportunity for us to raise public awareness of the outstanding contribution made by His Majesty's Armed Forces and honour the role members of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force, as well as Veterans, Cadets and Armed Forces families all play in keeping the UK safe, at home and abroad and thank them for their sacrifices.”
Colonel Peter McCarthy, Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire added: “I am delighted that the Armed Forces Day Flag was raised in East Renfrewshire in recognition of the vital role that everyone in the Armed Forces family plays in keeping the nation safe, here at home and wherever they are serving abroad.”
