A LOCAL politician is hosting a “Great Get Together” this week in a popular East Renfrewshire park.
Paul O’Kane MSP is hosting the event at Rouken Glen Park on Friday, June 23, from 11am until 1pm.
The meet-up is part of O’Kane’s annual picnic event to mark Pride Month.
Paul O’Kane MSP said: “Every year I host a Pride Picnic during Pride Month in an area in West Scotland and this year I’m pleased to announce I’m tying my Pride Picnic to the Great Get Together."
The Great Get Together is an annual event, inspired by the late Jo Cox, which seeks to bring people together from different communities.
O'Kane continued: “The point of the Great Get Together is to remember Jo Cox and her true and memorable words, so I hope it won’t just be friends who are attending but also some political opponents.
“As always, a key focus of my picnic will be acknowledging LGBT+ history and solidarity with the community but also an opportunity for us to come together across party politics and share what we have in common.”
