The organisers behind the event were All About Barrhead (AAB), the local business improvement district (BID).

Andy Dunlop, AAB BID manager, told the Barrhead News: "Over 1,000 people attended on the day and we saw it as a great success - something we may look to grow on in the future.

"Whilst we were disappointed at missing another year of the Rainbow Run, we hope this free event was a welcome replacement for a day of fun in the sun."

The Rainbow Run had been due to take place in and around Carlibar and Centenary Park on June 10.

Had it gone ahead it would have seen the event make a return following two years of cancellations due to the pandemic and a further postponement due to park upgrades.

Announcing its cancellation on social media on May 29, AAB said: “It is with regret that we must announce the cancellation of the Barrhead Rainbow Run 2023 - but don't remove the date from your diary just yet.

“We will be replacing the event with a free entry event - the Big Barrhead Bounce - in Centenary Park featuring all of the inflatable obstacles that would have featured at the event.

“All tickets purchased for the Barrhead Rainbow Run will be refunded in the coming days.

“We have been working hard in the background to do everything we can and make the required changes, but due to the ongoing improvements in Carlibar Park, it would have been impossible for us to deliver the great event we all remember and will look forward to ensuring the delivery of the 2024 event meets our high standards.”
