Residents who want to keep their community looking spick and span are being urged to join an East Renfrewshire 'clean team' for one of its forthcoming litter picks.

Members of the Neilston and Uplawmoor Litter Pickers have set out their schedule for the year ahead, with the first session taking place in Neilston on Sunday, March 26.

This will be followed by further litter picks on April 30, May 28, June 25, July 30, August 27, September 24, October 29, November 26 and December 24.

All those who would like to take part can meet the group at 10am on these days outside the Neilston Development Trust building, in the village's Main Street.

The litter picks usually last around one hour.

Details of litter picking in Uplawmoor on the same dates will be confirmed nearer the time.

Equipment will be available to borrow and all of the sessions are weather dependent.

Councillor Andrew Morrison, who represents Newton Mearns North and Neilston for the Conservatives, took to social media to urge local residents to join in.

He said: “Neilston & Uplawmoor Litter Pickers have arranged the forthcoming litter picking sessions for the year ahead.

“This is a great way to meet local people who care about the village and want to give an hour or two of their time to keeping the place looking at its best.

“It’s great light exercise, all equipment is provided and would recommend getting involved if you can.”
