A BARRHEAD school has been rewarded for its efforts to help children develop a lifelong love of books.
Hillview Primary now has a silver accreditation under the Reading Schools initiative, run by Scottish Book Trust. And pupils celebrated by enjoying a ‘booknic’ in the school grounds.
This involved bringing along their favourite books to read while tucking into some tasty snacks.
Staff at Hillview Primary have hailed the school’s “reading heroes.”
A spokesperson said: “The school’s hard work has really paid off.”
To gain Reading Schools accreditation, schools must show they are committed to building a culture of reading for their learners and communities.
A Scottish Book Trust spokesperson said: “Research proves that reading for pleasure has positive impacts on learners’ attainment across the curriculum, supporting wellbeing, critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.”
