An appeal has been launched for residents to donate photographs which show local life in bygone times.

The Heritage Service at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure is looking for snaps of the area from the 1950s to 1990s.

Although the service has an extensive collection of photographs, this time period is not so well represented.

The images collected will be placed permanently in the East Renfrewshire Heritage Collection and made available to the public in a number of ways including online.

There are also some exciting projects coming up where the images would be very useful.

Amanda Robb, local studies librarian for ERCL, told the Barrhead News: "We are particularly looking for photos reflecting images of working life and social life in the area.

"We would also be happy to take donations of small items of memorabilia such as programmes or tickets for local events."

If anyone has any images they would be happy to donate, they are asked not to send the image in straight away.

In the first instance, those keen to help should contact localstudies@ercultureandleisure.org or phone 0141 577 3872.

By doing so, those at the service will be able to advise what format and size to send digital copies in or will be able to make arrangements to scan hard copy images.
