IT was the end of an era in Uplawmoor as a much-loved street crossing patroller decided to hang up her lollipop after more than four decades of service.
Lysbeth-Ann Ramsay, known to her friends as Libby, began helping pupils at Uplawmoor Primary get to and from lessons safely 41 years ago.
Her dad Robert, who was a policeman, suggested the job to her way back in 1981.
Now, at the age of 58, she has decided to retire.
Children, parents, colleagues, friends and family lined up in the street on Thursday to cheer Libby on as she escorted her last group of children.
Libby told the Barrhead News: “I wasn’t expecting all of those people to show up.
“It was so nice to see all of my friends and family, it was quite exciting.”
Some of the schoolkids created farewell video messages to show to Libby, who also received gifts such as a spa voucher and flowers.
Libby spoke fondly of her years working as a ‘lollipop lady.’
“I just love working with children,” she said. “They would chat to me and tell me all about their day in school.”
In 2006, Libby received an award from East Renfrewshire Council to mark 25 years of service and, in 2009, she was given an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
As she begins her retirement, Libby is looking forward to spending time decorating her new flat.
“I definitely won’t miss the cold but I will miss the school and the children,” she added.
