A FUNDRAISING event organised by a Ukrainian baker who has made East Renfrewshire his home has coined in tens of thousands of pounds to help those caught up in war in his homeland.
Yuriy Kachak held a bake sale after the Russian invasion of Ukraine left him feeling "helpless."
He opened his Deanston Bakery, in Shawlands, Glasgow, yesterday, when it would normally be shut, to sell breads, cakes and other treats he had baked, along with home baking donated by others.
Hundreds of people queued around the block to show their support by making a purchase, raising at least £25,000 in the process.
Raffle tickets with prizes donated by local businesses were also on sale and there was live music to entertain people as they waited.
All proceeds raised on the day will go to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.

The bakery team thanked everyone for their support in a post on Instagram last night, writing: "So far...together, we've raised £25,000.
"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us this last week and everyone who came along today."
Dad-of-two Mr Kachak, who lives in Clarkston, is from the Ivano-Frankivsk region in western Ukraine but has lived in the UK for 19 years and moved to Scotland four years ago.
He runs the popular Deanston Bakery with his wife Svetlana, who is from Latvia, and his mother and brother also work there.
