Peak Scientific run contest for NuVuX summer school

Peak Scientific, a global specialist in gas generation systems for analytical laboratories, is investing more than £50,000 to fund 30 free spots at NuVuX’s summer school in Glasgow, from July 16 to 23.

The programme, created by Boston education innovators NuVu, will see pupils work with leading architects, designers and entrepreneurs on immersive studio projects.

Entrants who come up with the most interesting concepts for litter-picking shoes will be invited to join the school.

The firm’s challenge is open nationwide to any state school pupil over the age of 13.

Jonathan Golby, CEO of Peak Scientific, told The Barrhead News: “This is one small step towards trying to make every child in Scotland better prepared to take on the jobs of the future.

“Not all students learn in the same way. While the traditional curriculum-based learning works for many, other students prosper in an environment where it’s less about exams and more about using hands-on skills and working together with others to complete a project.

“NuVuX gives pupils the licence to develop their own answers and solutions, using their own initiative and intelligence to drive the process and solve open-ended problems.

“The change-makers, entrepreneurs and innovators of the future need a different solution to what’s been offered in the past.”

The intensive few days will be hosted at the UK’s first innovation school – a purpose-built £2.5million hub which is part of Kelvinside Academy, in Glasgow’s West End.

The theme will be green wearable tech, with pupils to be guided by NuVuX’s team of innovators – made up of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard graduates – as they design products that measure and improve the environment’s health.
