RESIDENTS who are booking PCR tests have been advised that the only available appointments are at sites more than 65 miles away.
The UK Government website currently shows that there are also "no available appointments" at walk-through sites near to the G78 postcode.
However, those living in the G78 area who are displaying symptoms of the virus can book PCR tests at a drive-through site in Glenrothes.
The desperate issue has even led residents to turn up at testing centres in neighbouring towns without an appointment, where they were turned away.
One local, who wished not to be named, told our sister paper, the Glasgow Times: "I decided to chance my arm but turning up to walk-in centres to see if they’d take me to save a huge drive.
"I tried one in Paisley but was told they’re not allowed to let anyone without an appointment unless they’re a key worker."
The UK Government website has encouraged residents who are currently unable to book an appointment to "try again in a few hours".
It comes as Scotland recorded almost 12,000 more cases of coronavirus and a further 13 deaths yesterday.
There were 859 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid, the daily figures showed, which is an increase of 49 from the previous day’s total.
That included 36 people in intensive care - up from 34.
