YOUNGSTERS in Barrhead have teamed up with a charity to bring a splash of colour to Dunterlie Resource Centre.
Organised by Impact Arts, in conjunction with Barrhead Housing Association, young people aged between 16 and 25 who are not in education, training or employment have been taking part in a 12-week initiative led by artist and tutor Emmett McSheffey.
As part of their efforts to take care of their community, the team has designed and painted the shutters at the resource centre.
Local graffiti artist David Knox was on hand to offer advice to young people based at the community hub, helping to bring their designs to life as they used spray paint to create bright colours and patterns.
Gillian Pettigrew, marketing and communications co-ordinator for Impact Arts, told the Barrhead News: “The work that they have created has already made a huge difference to the centre, with the locals enjoying the view.
“We have been connecting with disengaged young people in the Barrhead area and they have been focusing on engagement with the wider community, with a shared commitment to making their community a good place to be.
“Those taking part will gain a youth achievement award at the end of the 12 weeks.
“They have been working on the shutters at Dunterlie over the past few weeks, getting them ready to paint, and they recently welcomed David along to help bring their designs to life.
“There were showers of rain during the days they were working on the project but the powered on regardless.”
Gillian added: “They have now started work on a mural inside the centre.”
